I watched "The Illusionist" last night. Two thumbs and a toe, way up. It is a charming tale of a peasant magician (Edward Norton)in 19th century Vienna who falls in love with a young dutchess (Jessica Biel), but the social castes tear them apart as children. They are reunited on stage one night, as the dutchess is volunteered for by her fiance, the crown prince. A curious police chief (Paul Giamatti)is first intrigued by the magician's incredible illusions, but when an unthinkable crime occurs, intrigue gives way to inquiry and the illusionist is found suspect. His illusions take on a whole new form, and capture the entire city's awe. Until finally, justice is served and the truth is found out.
The acting is top-notch, the story is captivating. If you only see 1 movie this week, see "The Illusionist"!
